THE PURITAN STRAIN

Rather second string Baldwin -- American Family deserves a better fate than to be caught with this pot boiler as a successor. Pretty thin skirting of a theme implicit with possibilities. An unimportant story of an externally happy marriage which crashes on the rocks of the wife's love for an outsider, who defies her ""Puritan strain"" and brings things to a head. The conflicts are simply stated -- not developed. Good average picture of Mid Western country club set -- of its equivalent in New York -- of the pull and tug of loyalties to the family up state.
