A book for all little boys (and girls) who wake up early and understand the rule of the house. What happens in the wee hours of the morning as Jamie plays with his ""quiet"" toys will surely be familiar to fellow early risers. Especially reminiscent is the wish underlying each activity -- that mommy will awaken soon. An ambiguous accident (the blocks come tumbling down) prods the wish into reality as a groggy mommy comes to. Parents who look to this for busy work will be disappointed, but children will find Jamis good company until the time their special morning wish comes true. Leonard Weisgard gives us good representational drawings, though his conception of Jamie might have been more fetching.
