Jamie, the early riser of When A Boy Wakes Up in the Morning (1962, p. 972, J-284) here becomes a dawdler at bedtime, watching boats in the bathtub, creating a whale from a washcloth, and finally playing a brief, bouncing game (he's a seal diving on to his bed) with Father. Young early-to-beds will probably enjoy and wish to imitate Jamie's antics (to their parents' chagrin), but Mr. Weisgard could have portrayed a more rambunctious lad instead of the serene child here who sits dreamy-eyed in the tub and smiles only slightly after his final bounce.
