THE NEW CATHOLIC TREASURY OF WIT AND HUMOR

This is the second collection from this magazine (the first appeared in 1960) and it consists of longer pieces down to small Jokes and even tag lines. The circa five personal accounts of Pope John do not really qualify as ""wit and humor"" nor does some of the other material: but there's a nice Chesterton fable; a sketch of Father McCarthy who created the cartoon Father Juniper; three McGinley selections (one contending that women are better drivers); a very funny piece by Jean Kerr; Frank Scully; H. Allen Smith; etc. Certainly a great deal of the material is secular in content and catholic (note--lower case) in appeal--pleasant random reading.
