ELISABETH THE BIRD WATCHER by Felice Holman

ELISABETH THE BIRD WATCHER

By

Pub Date: Nov. 4th, 1963
Publisher: Macmillan

Papa and Elizabeth become interested in birds; she builds the feeder, and together they watch the various visitors. Several birds are briefly described and pictured in undersized black and white sketches. While young readers may identify with Elizabeth, they will most likely fail to identify the birds, because of the lack of needed color and the miniature illustrations. The author has failed to create excitement (there is a semblance of a plot in an attempt to deter the marauding squirrel) in her attempt to convey facts, -- facts which are nearly useless because of the non-instructive pictures (far below Blegvad's usual efforts).
