THE SEVEN RAVENS

By

Pub Date: April 10th, 1963
Publisher: Harcourt, Brace & World

The pictures--which are outstanding-- are set against the tale as told by the Brothers Grimm of seven lively boys who dawdled at the pump where they had been sent to get christening water for their sickly baby sister. Their roughhousing breaks the jug; they are afraid to go home and their father pronounces the curse that turns them into ravens. The sister starts to grow up and when she hears of their fate, she sets off to the ends of the earth to find and free them. The illustrations are memor-ole-- the color just right. Wisely, white space has been used to great advantage, for page and text are never overdecorated or overcrowded.
