KIRKUS REVIEW

Easy reading at third grade level -- and read aloud for the younger fry. Here's the story of eight year old Nipper, an orphan who is stifled by city apartment life and comes into his own when his eccentric uncle Petroneus, carries him off to a somewhat primitive life on the country. His pet donkey provides most of the action, and Nip and Tuck manage, between them, to engineer a romance. The Martin Bilbeck spot drawings give a somewhat foreign feel to a story set right in our own eastern states. Content good, but the style seems awkward and studied and occasionally inclined to talk down to the reader.
