Mountain-bred Marcy knew little or nothing about foreigners, until she came to Marshfield, New Jersey, to do community work. This was a liberal education learning the various characteristics of Poles, Hungarians and other Europeans, particularly difficult because we were at war in 1917 as now. She realizes how slow Americanization can be and how important a word is freedom. The author has done so much social service work herself that this book has an authentic ring.
