KIRKUS REVIEW

The author's Mind and Body was a highly commendable presentation of psychosomatic medicine, this concentrates in the first five years of life some of indications of later emotional illness, the habits formed, their handling and mishandling. In all of the aspects of infant and child behaviour considered here, there are illustrations from Dr. Dunbar's experience as a psychiatrist, and an equal stress on the emotional response of the parent as well as the child. Sleep (fears, loneliness, preventive factors); eating habits (as much or little as the child pleases, and when);play, obedience, illness, toilet training, sx, lying, stealing, escaping, -- these are the main sources of possible problems and dangers for an interpretation which is preventive, if occasionally overprotective.
