MY LIFE TO THE DESTROYERS

In technical lingo and vernacular, the story is told by its captain of how one destroyer went through some of the major actions in the Pacific. There is back ground regarding the destroyer class in general, how built, how manned, how operated -- and the life aboard them. Then more about the responsibilities of the Drayton, -- as convoy, mail delivery, patrol, sub scout. She was in on Pearl Harbor -- then Wake and Midway; she was assigned at Guadalcanal to knock out a train on the Tokyo express, and helped at Munda to take the airfield. Her captain won the Navy Cross and two repeat awards...Authentic note -- but nothing outstanding either in content or manner. One feels that saturation point is approaching and only exceptional books will win.
