THE ART OF PLANTING DESIGN by Florence Bell Robinson

THE ART OF PLANTING DESIGN

By

Publisher: Whittlesey

I found myself a bit beyond my depth in this, which although intended for the layman, is fairly technical and scholarly in manner and method. Careful analysis of color and texture from the scientific angle; a study of design, etc., all to indicate the intangible character of the ""art"". The author stresses three main things:- (1) the development of discrimination, good judgment, good taste; (2) the presentation of various techniques for the production of skill in the transmission of ideas; (3) the creation of a memory content. The book is a study of the basic principles which can be taught, and their relation to and expression in the individual work of art. The amateur can get occasional help from this book, but its value is primarily for schools and students of landscaping.
