Miss Means is uneven. She has written some first-rate books, and some that verge on the boring. This belongs to that class, I am afraid. It is a story of semi-pioneering life in Colorado, at the turn of the century, full of homey details, with little action. The Reverend Mr. Austen takes his wife and children from the gracious living of Kansas City to primitive Apache. This is the story of how the family found its place in the new setting.
