KIRKUS REVIEW

Brazil is the setting for this story of a small country boy who wanted to earn money to buy a carnival suit to go to Rio. Through his activities one gets a picture of the round of work and play in the hill country back of Rio de Janeiro. Sometimes the introduction of factual content seems a trifle forced, but on the whole it has the ring of authenticity and reads well. Pictures are charming -- a bit too ""pretty"" but very engaging. Drawn by Mary Heilmuth. Board covers.
