SPRING WILL COME AGAIN

A post Civil War setting, characters in profusion, and a leisurely pace. The land and the cotton are paramount problems, and strife between Negro and white, plus domestic and marital life make this a complex whole, and dissipate the central interest. It is long-detailed-solid reading, betraying a thorough knowledge of the period and its topics, but it lacks the vital spark of life.
