Imaginative Christmas trees of unusual sizes and materials are the focus of this holiday story for younger children with retro art that points adult readers back to the 1950s. This 50s flair in the illustrations includes artistic choices of hard edges, simple shapes and deep colors, with a complementary typeface set in gray with contrasting initial capitals in deep red. The poetic, rhyming text asks the reader in just a few words per page to imagine different kinds of trees: held aloft by the Statue of Liberty or attached to the mast of a sailboat, decorated with food items for animals, or made of cheese for a family of mice, or a tree comprised of swans flying in formation. The conclusion points out that the best Christmas tree, of course, is the decorated tree in your own home. A final page of supplementary information offers some interesting facts about the history of Christmas trees. (Picture book. 3-6)
