An endearing story of the acclimation of a new American from Wales. Ten-year-old Mary Lizzie Williams, generously endowed with freckles and red hair, crosses the Atlantic with her family to settle in an Ohio home. The schools, children and a new way of life puzzle and frighten Mary Lizzie, but the spunky youngster soon overcomes her shyness, makes new friends -- native Americans and other foreign born children -- and happily participates in school and holiday activities until at last she feels she really ""belongs"".
