A simple introduction in Q-and-A format to several fascinating friends from the animal kingdom.
This and its three companion volumes, Ears, Feet, and Noses, offer young readers a fun, interactive guide to some of the world’s more colorful creatures. Close-ups of the titular feature of each volume invite children to name the corresponding fauna to which they belong: “Who has a COLORFUL TAIL like this?” A turn of the page reveals the answer: “A peacock!” “Who has POINTY EARS like these?” “A fox!” “Who has a BIG NOSE like this?” “A horse!” Featured types of feet include webbed (a duck), scaly (a crocodile), and, perhaps less convincingly, “happy” (a penguin). The formula is simple, but the stock photos are visually arresting, and the introduction to different species and to the variations of specific anatomical features from creature to creature should fascinate curious toddlers. Young readers will also enjoy calling out the answers to each question read by their caregivers. Five different animals are featured in each sturdy volume, with no repeats from book to book, for a total of 20 different animals. Other featured critters include exotics (elephants, zebras, chameleons, whales, koalas, beavers, lemurs, lions, and leopards) and familiar favorites (goats, pigs, horses, dogs, and rabbits).
Fun and adequate as a stand-alone volume; even better with its companions.
