THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE AIR

Vignettes of R. A. F. activities and personnel, facts somewhat fictionalized. The author is rumored to be H.E. Bates, a well-known short story writer, and the quality of the work bears out the claim. They are ably, sensitively done, literate bits of writing making memorable the human side of the defenders of the air. Stories of good filers and bad, of bombers, combat, of women and families left behind, of foreigners the service, of crashes and strain, of relaxation, of death in battle, of the reasons back of heroic and desperate battle. Good reportage.
