HENRY FOR HUGH

A situation that should be very entertaining:- the suicide of a cousin at a moment that would endanger the security of a great many people, forces Henry to take his place, and -- for the moment -- to take on his responsibilities. That these included three women was something he had not bargained on, and all sorts of complications arise. The story doesn't quite come off -- it is more brilliant in the inception than the execution. The touch is not light enough to carry off the situations. The style is at times confusing, and the constant interpolation of French would be a barrier to the reader who was not thoroughly familiar with the language. Appeal only to those who like eccentric and sophisticated novels.
