RIDING THE MUSTANG TRAIL

Five adventure-loving youths from the cattle country, see an opportunity to make some money during the summer of 1932 by aiding the government in its round-up of wild horses in northern New Mexico. When the round-up is over, they buy a large herd of the wild ponies and drive them more than 400 miles to Oklahoma. This is the story of that trip. The author has caught the spirit of the southwest, the glamor and thrills of the ride, with numerous narrow escapes from crazed stallions, maddened by loco wood, from quicksands, from quick striking rattlers. Hazing the horses by day, night-herding them in wind and rain and lightening, sticking doggedly to a seemingly endless task -- a deed of the Old West rather than the New, even with the anachronism of a broken-down old Chevrolet. The appeal is to men and boys interested in feats of horsemanship, in virilo true adventure, in westerns of authentic background. Well written and unusual.
