KIRKUS REVIEW

The story of a whaling voyage around the Horn, in the year 1846 -- and of the surprising wind-up with a mysterious rescue of some Japanese and a stop at forbidden Japan; the discovery of a marooned man on a Pacific Island and the paying off of an old debt. In these adventures, a 16-year old farmer's boy who had joined the ship at New Bedford, plays his part. Good atmosphere and a readable tale.
