SET POINT: The Story of Chris Evert

By

Pub Date: May 16th, 1977
Publisher: Putnam

An apple pie portrait of Princess Chris, whose parents did not push her (it's just that tennis was fun) and who, unlike many other teenagers of her time, had no interest in politics or drugs. Settling down to tennis, Sabin takes cool, modest, but determined Chris through the early tournaments and later the important matches and hard work in between. High point is Wimbledon, 1974, with Chris and Jimmy King and Queen of tennis; later, ""we're so busy we don't have time to get married"" (""others"" note that though Chris handles fame with maturity, Jimmy is a spoiled brat), and the golden girl goes on alone, joking uneasily about the ""little punks coming up"" who will someday unseat her. A standard release, for fans who require the bits of court action that Haney's snappier Chris Evert (1976, from the same publisher) omitted.
