THE SECRET CHRISTMAS

The cat-and-mouse game gets a Christmas wrapping in this inconsequential story of a mouse family that apes the house family's holiday customs. On Christmas Eve while the cat is out, each of the mouse children is allowed to venture from their hole and gather one item for their miniature celebration. But after Roquefort, Brie, Provolone, and Bleu have safely returned, little Rarebit (his first time out) is so impressed with the dazzling room that he lingers until the cat returns. Brave Roquefort must divert the cat while Rarebit scoots home, and some readers may be similarly diverted by this diminutive bit of fancy -- still Rarebit's escapade has very little to do with Christmas.
