KIRKUS REVIEW

Placed in this section simply because I feel that fairy tales can be enjoyed if read aloud by younger children who lack the mechanical reading ability. Children in the upper brackets (8-9-10) will still enjoy them, so sell to all these ages. The author has tapped not only fairy lore through the medium of the Lang volumes, but has gone to source material in English, Cossack and Japanese tales, to the Brothers Grimm and to Lewis Carroll and a few modern fairy tale tellers. An excellent collection, with the cat appeal perhaps secondary to the stories themselves.
