Here's a love story with more substance than saccharine, and with a background of historical fact relating to people, rather than actual events, -- the people who took part in a Connecticut Valley settlement called Ryegate. The story centers around Elizabeth Burr, exiled to this new, strange country from Scotland, while at home she was considered dead, the means taken to cut her off from the man she loved. A tragic situation, for a girl whose tolerance was considered heresy, whose beauty and culture were envied and scowled upon, and a situation which found respite only in marriage based upon faith and friendship. A better than average story. Might have somewhat the market, among women, that Judas Tree found. Good for rental libraries.
