The resolution of the marriage, not for love, of Alfreda Scott, a nurse, to Simon Overden, the wealthy acion of a mill town first family, when Simon marries Alfreda with his eyes wide open to her closed heart, and Alfreda marries Simon to secure a home for her dead sister's baby. The Jose of the baby leaves Alfreda with no validity to the move she has made; there is trouble at home- with Simon's grandmother, and in the town, with labor unrest; but an accident- Simon's- brings Alfreda back, as a nurse and as a wife, she crosses ""the hidden boundary between liking and love"". Styled not high- but right for rent.
