The publisher's catalog says that the illustrations will ""and, together With the run to ""approximately one hundred and thirty photographs, text, this should be enough without being too much for the young collector. The author has supplied ""glimpses into history"" and the coinage of each period is related to what was going on in the country when it was struck, why designs were chosen and how the people who spent the money lived. It makes for a lively anecdotal account and starts with the money circulating before the first mint was established in Boston in 1652 and comes down to the unlovely ""sandwich"" issues of today. The style allows for the easy acquisition of the many special definitions of coin collecting and there is a lengthy glossary of terms at the back of the book to reinforce the text.
