Nowadays there's something to be said for a ghost story with a nice, ordinary, farfetched explanation, but that's all that can be said for this. The narrator-heroine, a highschooler visiting Massachusetts' North Shore with her mother, goes to a near-deserted mansion in a storm to ask for directions and stumbles onto a young woman who, it appears, was murdered two years back. . . who turns out to be the look-alike sister of the deceased. At least she's dead and buried: the presumed-drowned son of two other local oddities turns up (from Mexico) as the murderer covering his tracks. Along the way, we learn that the heroine is named ""Sandra Douglas,"" a colorless, flavorless tag pulled out of the same bottom drawer as the plot, the setting, and the resident ""characters.
