The major drawback to this book is its tardy publication which will give other books a considerable head start. Furthermore the plan, which Mr. Coulter rightly believes is the necessary first step for a successful garden, takes a month or so to draw up so that for starting a garden this year this book is practically useless. It is another how-to-do-it book from artichokes to zucchini, with full detail on each vegetable, soil, tools, insecticides, frost tables, etc. Terms are explained so that a novice who doesn't know what a dibble is, is told. A complete book, with very commonsense suggestions that will help the new gardener avoid the usual pitfalls.
