THE MAN HAS WINGS

This little volume, chiefly of lyrics and sonnets, and two short plays, turns out to be an obscure collection of finished and unfinished verses by Francis Thompson, of Hound of Heaven fame. Published for the first time, many of the sonnets are fine-some addressed to Katie King with whom he entertained a short-lived friendship, others to the Meynells, Coventry Patmore and D. G. Rossetti. Father Connolly, who purchased the poet's notebooks from his heirs, has contributed the introduction and notes- but the notes are fairly desultory and could be more informative.... An interesting item for scholars and admirers of Francis Thompson's verse and a minor literary event.
