VERTICAL WARFARE by Francis Vivian Drake

VERTICAL WARFARE

By

Pub Date: July 23rd, 1943
Publisher: Doubleday, Doran

Following in the footsteps of de Seversky and Ziff, Drake bases his brief for a decisive air offensive on the accomplishments to date. His book outlines the fundamentals of this type of warfare, -- types of planes, tactics, bases of operation, armament, targets (whether land or sea, moving or still). He believes that Hitler's failure to bomb Britain out of the war in 1940 was due to insufficient planes and faulty tactics. He believes, and backs his facts with figures, that our offensive against Germany can also be done against Japan, once we have acquired a land base. But to this reader, he does not prove his point here. Brief picture of the functions and validity of the air offensive, with occasional actual reports, official and personal, illustrating the incidents. The market for this sort of book is well defined. I don't believe this will the popularity of the others.
