Slightly more substantial than her last, Scars on the Soul, which hovered in between the novel and philosophy and nowhere--this is another seductively flimsy small story about the idle, protected, lucky, unhappy few. In this case JosÉe Ash, married for three years when first met to an American who jealously submits her to 24-hour surveillance before she goes off into the custody of elderly, lonely, very rich Julius. Suddenly a small job and an apartment are hers (she never wonders why); Julius flies her to Nassau where he collapses on the beach; she meets Louis, a vet, and there's that new ""sunlit open road of passion"" ahead while fortunately Julius has dropped dead. Kiss, kiss and sigh, all confided with that unmistakable touch of intimacy on tissue paper.
