FAMOUS TWENTIETH CENTURY LEADERS

Basing his organization partially on geography and partly on time (e.g. one section is entitled ""Leaders of China""; another is called ""World War II), Mr. Donovan presents thumb-nail sketches of twelve great leaders of this century. The struggles over reform and reconstruction in various governments during the first half of the twentieth century are evidenced in the portraits of the men represented here, especially in the cases of China and Russia. The United States is viewed in two eras of upheaval-- during the term of Wilson, and later, of F.D.R. The two tyrannical rulers, Mussolini and Hitler, have not been omitted, and of course, Churchill and Gandhi receive attention. This is for quick reference, and although the writing is generally uninspired, the author does a competent job with Mussolini and Gandhi.
