KIRKUS REVIEW

These essays adapted from sermons demonstrate the Rev, Frank Butterworth's dissatisfaction with the teaching and preaching about the prophets solely as though they lived long ago and far away. With lucid pen he takes old texts and situations, and points to their immediate, sometimes awful, relevance in the modern world. These essays are written for laymen to understand and preachers to enjoy. They make no attempt at a total delineation of the eight prophets they treat, or of the four New Testament characters either. Rather, they take a bit of the preaching or teaching involved and use it for illuminating contemporary situations. Very readable.
