JOAN IN FLOWERLAND

By

Publisher: Warne

Joan plays with the flower fairies in a series of brief chapters about the doings of fairies among the flowers. The stickily whimsical text only complements the illustrations which are the book's outstanding selling point. The delicate pastel drawings of Margaret Tarrant have a loyal and determined following in spite of the efforts of modern artists to break away from the sentimental traditionalism represented here. Here are the elves and pretty decorations now appropriated by greeting cards and fancy ""stationery"" and although we may deplore the influence, one cannot ignore the appeal. For the Tarrant followers and old-fashioned aunts.
