A Christianity Today Reader is intended for the ""great host of true Christians, whose faith has been impaired,"" and who are today ""earnestly seeking for a faith to live by and a message to proclaim."" It is openly evangelical (""the real hinge of history to me is Jesus Christ"") in its stance while maintaining a certain liberalism toward the liberal and Roman Catholic views. It investigates and pronounces on Communism, ecumenism; Barth, Bultmann, Tillich, Robinson, Teilhard de Chardin; evangelism itself (""The world longs for authority, finality, conclusiveness""--Billy Graham); considers civil rights and the projection of sex in America, depth psychology and existentialism. Originating from a ""deepfelt desire to express historical Christianity to the present generation,"" it is a responsible middle-course approach to which conventional Protestants will respond.
