Narrative poetry which epitomizes the restless call of the movement ever westward, the slow severing of ties as each one leaves the old for the new. The story of a group composing a caravan headed for California, but centering on Sarah Broughton and her five children, particularly Celeste, lovely, frail, ardent. Sarah, realizing how she had sacrificed her own happiness, tries to save her child from the same mistake, only to learn that she cannot help her. A rather grand thing of its kind, which will appeal not only to those who enjoy the best of narrative poetry, but also those who think they prefer their history in prose.
