SKIING NATURALLY by Frank Harper

SKIING NATURALLY

By

Publisher: A. A. Wyn

This seems to me- from the novice's viewpoint- the best all around book for the inexperienced skiier. Frank Harper, well-known through his books in this field and his record of the Mountain Division, approaches the subject from the point of view of teaching the hows along with the whys. He starts with equipment; he studies skiis in order to understand what they do and why. He urges general physical fitness, and outlines exercises that -- taken systematically even for three minutes a day -- should condition the muscles that will be brought into play in postures, snowplow, stem turns, stem Christiana, etc. He suggest preliminary practice on the level, in standing, turning, jump turning, and so on. He defends the case for ski tours, for climbing, for avoiding too great dependence on tows. He analyzes the successive steps to assurance on the slope. He outlines procedure in case of accident. And he illustrates with graphic line drawings which diagram the points he is making.
