THE NEW WORLD OF HELICOPTERS

What are helicopters up to these days? As ""Skycops,"" they are fighting crime and controlling traffic; in rural regions, they are putting out fires and dispensing chemicals and fertilizers; as supplements to jets, they are taking passengers close to home; to remote, isolated areas, they bring fast communication and transportation; where the terrain is difficult, they help install industrial equipment; and, in an aside, ""even -- girls fly helicopters."" Each of the armed services benefits from their unique capabilities. A down-to-earth description of the versatile verticals at work is preceded by a brief history and supplemented by numerous photographs. More diverse activities are described in greater detail than in the somewhat similar Helicopters in Action (1962).
