Another of Frank Jupo's practical informational books, this is a survey of sports from the earliest beginnings recorded in pre-historic man's cave drawings, to the revival of the Olympic games today. All the major- and many minor sports are described from their origins (often a necessity not a sport -- as in running and riding and hunting), to the modern versions. Among men of the ancient world only Greece had sports for sports sake. Today all people do. Origins of contests -- amateur and professional -- are also discussed.
