MISSION TO THE HEAD HUNTERS

More fascinating than most novels or tales of adventure, this tells the story of how a band of dedicated people went to the far slopes of the Ecuadorean Andes near the border of Peru to supplement the efforts of an earlier mission to the Jivaros. This was an Indian tribe with habits as primitive as any in the world. The Gospel Missionary Union began a mission early in the 20th century, with almost no results. But gradually a change was evident, and shortly after World War II there went out a call for additional missionaries. One was martyred in the first efforts to make friends. The Droons were among the survivors whose dauntless courage has brought a world of difference to these people. Settling at Macuma, the missionaries went through periods of fruitlessness, then slowly response began, and today there are Jivaros who are themselves preaching and taking leadership roles in a thriving, expanding Church. Here in this thrilling account is unfolded the tale of God's Providence, of his fortuitous intervention, and of how strong people become who are humbly willing to ask His Will and His strength.
