KIRKUS REVIEW

The title of this collection highlights the major single thread which unifies separate stories here. As in previous collections, Mr. O'Connor introduces an appealing continuity by repeating the characters, though each tale is in itself complete. Set in Ireland, each story is a vignette on some phase of domestic life from puppy love through the heartbreaks of adolescence to serious courtship and marriage. Nuances and undertones merge into a fabric of Irish life and character with connubial bliss viewed from all angles. The author's arrangement of stories and choice of content is sympathetically provocative, warm and entertaining.
