KIRKUS REVIEW

The exclusive, secret club called The Hideout Club, was the defense of one newcomer who was cruelly snubbed by the group, and who decided to go ahead on his own, with an imaginary Mr. Whiffletree as fellow member. Then there's another boy who joins him and all goes swimmingly until the boys are terrified into concealing and feeding a mad tramp. Eventually, they achieve his capture and he is taken away. The boys have won fame and prestige- and their relation to the group is reversed. But lots of parents would hesitate at the experience which brought even so good a solution.
