POLARITIES OF MAN'S EXISTENCE IN BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

As the title indicates, a study of Biblical doctrine concerned primarily with man in polar situations -- that is, situations in which man is claimed from two sides at once and where he finds his authentic existence in the resulting stress. The author's method is to define man's nature and destiny in terms of the tensions resulting from the fact that man is the image of God, but not God; that he is complex, but unitary; individual, but corporate; free, yet bound; good, yet bad; complete, but not final. An intriguing approach, and an original one -- as intelligible to the layman as it is to the Biblical scholar. Yet the book presupposes a taste for theological profundities which, unfortunately, will limit its market to the latter.
