THE JUNGLE ROUTE

Here is the record of one of the world's great engineering feats, the laying of the Madeira-Mamore Railroad, -- "" A human life for every cross tie laid."" Thirty years ago Brazil agreed to the construction of this road around the Madeira Falls of the Amazon, a stretch of 200 miles of rapids, with jungle portages, the only outlet for the Bolivian provinces. American contractors succeeded where others failed. This is the story of one youth's share, of the year which carried him beyond his fellow's record. Vivid pictures of the country with enough anecdotal material to give the pace of adventure. But as a writing job, it seems amateurish and uneven. The interest is enhanced by fine photographs. Nice bit of typography. Publicity stunts, tie up with lectures, with autographing parties, made up of survivors, etc.
