KIRKUS REVIEW

Blood, physical punishment and ferocious action in this tale of courage and the manly sport. Tommy Rogers, once star quarterback for the New York Giants, but forced to leave football because of a broken neck, starts from the beginning, working up in the team again, only to be sidelined permanently by another injury. However, he assumes the unpleasant task of coaching his successor, a fresh, self-centered rookie, soon publicity-happy after spectacular playing. Tommy rooms with Clyde, swallowing insults in the interests of the team. In the last important game with the Chicago Bears, however, Clyde redeems himself and Tommy makes one last great play. Broken bones seem to lie all around in this one.
