DIARY OF OUR OWN SAMUEL PEPYS by Franklin P. Adams

DIARY OF OUR OWN SAMUEL PEPYS

Pub Date: Nov. 7th, 1935

Carefully culled from the files of F.P.A.'s columns from the inauguration of his weekly (at that time more frequent) diary column. An oddly revealing side-light on the passing show -- the inner circles of New York's literary crowd, the ""tips on the market"" from the viewpoint of books and plays, personalities, in brief, gossip round the town. Friendly, spirited, sincere -- and still good reading. Yes, even to the length of two volumes, though I'd advise it for pick up reading, not straight through. It is fun to dip in here and there -- to see what F. P. A. said about Jennie Gerhardt, when it appeared, about Bunker Bean, Penrod, Seventeen, Ruggles of Red Gap, Main Street. The American Tragedy and many others. There's more about plays -- and playwrights and actors -- even than about books. Rather surprisingly little about current happenings, in the outside world. The view is a narrow one -- but good seeing. 2 volumes.
