LET'S FIND OUT ABOUT EASTER

A simple, sensible introduction to the ""two joys"" of Easter, the Resurrection and the resumption of growth, with familiar customs explained towards the close. The significance of the holiday for Christians is clearly but not constrictingly stated: there is room for differences of interpretation. Also astute is the treatment of the Crucifixion: ""Good Friday--the name comes from God's Friday--is the day when the Romans put Jesus on a cross to die. In those days when a person was convicted of wrongdoing he was nailed to a cross."" This is the most effective of the double-page spreads; otherwise their arbitrary green and blue becomes monotonous. Aileen Fisher's Easter is of course more informative and others are more festive; this scales the essentials to the quite young, no more and no less.
