KIRKUS REVIEW

The noblest love of all, in a mattachine fashion, is demonstrated in Roman-dominated Greece of the early Christian era by the lovers Mithologos the Storyteller and Vosgos, the beautiful shepherd lad. The lovers meet forlorn -- Mithologos having been sloughed off by a boy he had rescued from a cruel patron and re-virilized; and Vosgos badly hurt after a pirate raid which resulted in the death of his beloved. The two journey to the city of Kos where a countryman causes havoc among the Greeks and the seedy, sour Christians, but the devotion of the lovers saves them both from crucifixion. Throughout there are tributes to the Greek Way and tremulously explicit erotic idylls.
