KIRKUS REVIEW

Astrophysicist Sir Fred Hoyle and his son provide both science and fiction in this highly professional example of SF's natural disaster school. A quasar appears in the southern skies, harbinger of an explosion at the galaxy's center, and a few weeks later the climate is doing flipflops and civilization is in ruins; however, a highpowered physicist who also happens to be a Scottish laird helps a tattered remnant to survive. Adroit work marred by an abrupt conclusion.
